Sierra Leone’s First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has commissioned the first Maternity Health Center in Malleh village, Kagbado Njeibla Section, Nongowa chiefdom Kenema district.
The Center was built by Ibrahim Swaray and Hon. Alice Konya Sandi in recognition and pushing the drive of President Bio’s promise to the people of Malleh village and named after the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
Ibrahim Swaray emphasised total dedication to fulfilling promises made during the elections and called on the people to believe and trust in the leadership of President Bio. He called on the community to continue supporting the leadership of the country, crediting the SLPP for its developmental strides adding that, this is a start to a new sustainable development.
First Lady Fatima Maada Bio expressed her gratitude to Ibrahim Swaray and Hon. Alice K Sandy for their outstanding work. She highlighted the importance of trust and passion in community development and commended Chief Swaray’s perseverance. Addressing speculations, she clarified that there were no issues between Chief Brima Swaray and President Bio, affirming their strong bond.
She highlighted the need for accessible and quality healthcare services for expectant mothers and stressed the role of the Center in reducing maternal mortality rates as she further expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the establishment of the maternal health center, especially Ibrahim Swaray and Hon. Alice Kornya Sandy, recognizing their contributions to advancing healthcare in Sierra Leone. She called for continued collaboration and support to ensure that the facility effectively serves its purpose and positively impacts the lives of women and children in Malleh village and surrounding areas.
She explained the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Law that enhances gender parity and also mentions her efforts in the fight against teenage pregnancy, urging all to collectively and actively stand and fight against this menace that has become a new normal.
The commissioning of the Maternal Health Center is a significant development aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of expectant mothers and improving maternal health outcomes in the community.
