Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba has congratulated his deputy minister, Piagie Alghali for delivering an excellent statement at the United Nations Security Council.
Minister Kabba posted: “Congratulations H.E Piagie Alghali! Your wealth of experience in this sector is enabling great things happening. Thank you team Sierra Leone UN for the tremendous working you’re doing for our nation!”
Responding, Deputy Minister Alghali said: “Thank you for your gracious recognition, Minister Tim Kabba. Your leadership and support inspire our team Sierra Leone UN to continue striving for excellence in our service to our nation. Together, we will work tirelessly to achieve our shared goals for Sierra Leone.”
Ahead of the United Nation Security Council Open Debate on Peacebuilding and Sustaining Peace, Deputy Minister Piagie Alghali engaged in pivotal discussions with counterparts from China, H.E. Ms. Huang Xiaowei, China Mission to the United Nation, United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Algeria’s Ambassador Amr. Bendjamabahead.
She emphasised the crucial role of inclusive strategies for conflict prevention and empowerment of women and youth.
In a similar development, Minister Timothy Musa Kabba engage in discussions with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, in order to enhance relations and cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the two ministers also addressed various regional and international issues, including the Palestinian cause, opening a Sierra Leonean Embassy in Algeria, energy, trade, industry, agriculture, education, research, fishing, and the potential establishment of a joint business council.
Sierra Leone and Algeria have had a long standing bilateral relationship spanning back to the notable events of the 1980 OAU Summit that was conducted in Sierra Leone. Algeria was the biggest external support to President Stevens’s government.
Following years of lull in the relationship, Sierra Leone’s President Dr Julius Maada Bio visited Algiers in January this year to rekindle that historic relationship. The visit led to the opening of an embassy in Algiers and the further deepening of the relationship of the two countries.
Algeria has received the chairmanship of the APRM from President Bio and works with Sierra Leone in the committee of 10 heads of state of the AU for the reform of the UN Security Council. The country is also one of the 3 members of the UN Security Council with Sierra Leone representing Africa.
