The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has engaged Japan through it international agency, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for partnership.

In a snapshot meeting with the JICA Resident Representative, Hitoshi Sato, the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu disclosed that as an institution, they have not had contact with Japan and therefore expressed hope that the relationship will be fruitful.

“Thank you for the spirit of cooperation that has sprang up between Japan and the SLP. We hold you in high esteem and look forward to working with you,” said the first gentle man of the SLP.

The SLP he went on to say find itself in a situation where they need support from people who would want to help them.

“We are not bringing a shopping list but you will go and see for yourself what we have and see how you can help us to move forward,” he said and commend them for coming to stand by the SLP.

The JICA Resident Representative, Hitoshi Sato in his response also disclosed that it was the first time engaging the SLP on cooperation and that their engagement with the IGP was to get him informed of their site visit to Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy (SILEA) to see where they can provide support to the academy.

Ag Director of training Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Esther Kentor, stated that after her return from Japan, she made a presentation on action plans, deliberated on activities with staff of the academy and they presented the academy felt needs to JICA.
