One of the key activities of the community according to Leigh is charcoal burning which is harmful both to the environment and the people living around this environment.

“We tell what they can benefit from planting trees and from the trees themselves,” Leigh said, adding that the reaction of the people was good.

Mr. Leigh disclosed that they will be engaging and advising the Minister, professional heads and Permanent Secretary about the importance of planting forests and its management with the community people.

“If we take forestry activities to the doorsteps of the people, it can help the government and reduce the pressure on the forest reserves in the country,” Leigh said, adding that they will also approach international bodies to support community based forest management.

Mr. Leigh disclosed that the people will be donating 300 acres of land for the planting tree seedlings, stating that they will be doing GPS mapping for surveyors to know what is available.

Responding, the Director of Kalusha Farmers Development Organization Abdul Kargbo said they partner with the Ministry and because of the call of President Bio following frequent natural disasters in the country.
