Freetown Mayor receives Tony Blair Institute Managing Director

Mayor of Freetown, Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has received Tim Brumfield, Interim Managing Director for the Tony Blair Institute for Africa, and Ope Adejoro, Regional Director for West and Central Africa, on a courtesy visit.

Their discussion focused on potential support from TBI to FCC in areas aligned with the Transform Freetown-Transforming Lives roadmap, which aims to create job opportunities for 120,000 women and youth.

Similaly, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr met with a team from Delivery Associates to review 2024 progress of #FreetownTheTreetown Project, supported by donors including Bloomberg Philanthropies.

The review looked at several key areas: green infrastructure operations and delivery, data measurement, reporting and verification, financing and impact investment ecosystems, communications and advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, and governance and coordination.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr commended progress achieved so far, thanked donor partners for their support, and emphasised the importance of community ownership of the trees to ensure long-term sustainability.
