National Petroleum (NP) Sierra Leone Limited and Texaco Gas Station have announced a significant reduction in fuel prices. Effective immediately, petrol is now priced at Le25 per liter at both stations, while diesel costs Le24 at NP and Le23 at Texaco.

The management of Texaco made the official announcement during a broadcast on Radio Bintumani 93.7 in Kabala. The company expressed its commitment to providing affordable fuel for consumers, responding to public demand for lower prices.

The price reduction follows sustained advocacy from the Native Consortium, a group that has been actively campaigning for decreased fuel costs.

Edmond Abu, Executive Director of the Native Consortium, stated that there is substantial evidence supporting a further reduction to Le22 per liter. He urged the government to act promptly, questioning, “What are you waiting for?”

Despite the reductions implemented by NP and Texaco, the official government pump price remains at Le27.3. The Native Consortium argues that fuel could be sold at Le23 while still ensuring that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealers achieve adequate profit margins.
