Since President Barrow will be here  during Sierra Leone’s  56th Independence Anniversary , he will celebrate the occasion with  the country.

Mr. Barrow’s visit is however part of  a mini-West African tour to thank other West African leaders for their role in the Gambian crisis.

CTGN REPORTS :

A statement from Gambian President Adama Barrow’s office has said the West African country’s leader is set to embark on a tour of ECOWAS countries that helped him assume office.

Gambia was thrown into a political limbo after the former President Yahya Jammeh refused to accept results of December 2016 election a week after he congratulated Barrow for the win.

President Barrow will arrive in the Sierra Leonean capital of Freetown on Wednesday then head to Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria, the Africa Review reports.

The leaders of those countries were instrumental in negotiating a peaceful exit of Yahya Jammeh who , in the face of advancing troops from Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria deployed by the regional group, subsequently flew out to Equatorial Guinea where he currently lives in exile.

President Barrow early in March fulfilled his promise to make his first international outing to Gambia’s next door neighbour, Senegal, as the leading player in the resolution of the post-December poll standoff.

The tour comes barely a week after a controversial visit to the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) which divided his country over the alleged undemocratic credentials of President Dennis Sassou Nguesso.
