Both teams were impressive in the first half of play and equally tried to find the back of the net but they were not successful in spite of their concerted effort of using the orthodox 4-4-2 formation. The first half of play drew to a close in a goalless nature for both sides.
In the early minute of the second half , defender Ibrahim Mansaray turned the ball into his own net for an own goal which gave the young scorpions their first goal. Ten minutes later the captain for the Young Scorpions Abdoulie Jallow put the icing on the cake to seal the victory, when he scored a spectacular goal from 20 yards off the goal area. At the end of the ninety minutes, one would deduce by saying two straight goals for the Young Scorpions of the Gambia cause the Shooting Stars of Sierra Leone to fade away.
However, despite the best effort by the shooting stars to overhaul the situation, naivety largely engulfed their brilliant moves, and this proved futile during the course of the match.
The amazing dominance by the baby scorpions on the shooting stars in youth competition still continues on a sound footing in successive campaigns, despite best effort to upset the baby scorpions in recent times by the golden generation of youngsters in the country and restore parity still hangs in the balance.
Meanwhile, it is crystal clear that the baby scorpion has got a very good record over Sierra Leone’s shooting stars.
The return leg is slated for April 23rd in the Gambia. Sierra Leone and 19 other countries will be involved in the opening round. The 14 winners from the second round will off in the third round on July 8-10 for the first leg and July 22-24 for the return leg with the seven eventual winners joining the host Zambia for the tournament next year February 26 to March 12 2017 in Lusaka.
