The school, which is now the first primary school built in the village over the past 79 Years, was commissioned by the German Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wolfgang Wiethoff.
Barbara Boettcher, Head of the project, said the school was built due to a request made by an indigene of chiefdom, Mr. Yembeh Mansaray, who had approached them, appealing for assistance on behalf of the people in his chiefdom.
She explained that plans to build the school started five years ago because they noticed that Karakor Sokurulla needed a school that children would be able to access easily and safely.
“I have a dream, a dream that all children of Karakor Sorkuralla and all children in Sierra Leone can read, write and count so that they can find work with which they can make a good living,” Barbara Boettcher said.
She noted that the funds that were used to build the schools also provided school uniforms, pay teachers’ salaries and other learning materials for the pupil. These monies she said were raised by the congregation, which comprises over two thousand members.
Also she said, the school was built in consultation with the government of Sierra Leone to ensure that the school structure is of national standard as required by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology.
She went further to explain that they have also paid for three people from the chiefdom, to enroll and be trained at a higher learning institution in the country so they become qualify teachers and give back to their community.
She thanked the community people for their support over the years and for making sure that their dreams for the children in the community has become a reality. she expressed hope that the government of Sierra Leone will continue from where they have stopped and to also ensure that the school is approved.
Abubakar Kuyateh, Deputy Director of Education, thanked the donors on behalf of the Minister of Education and the government of Sierra Leone for the school built for children in the Karakor Sokurulla.
He said that the donor were complementing the effort of the government of Sierra Leone, which is charged with the responsibility to identify needs of communities and addressed them.
“For a long time we have been yearning to have a school in this village and luckily for us with the Madam Boettcher’s intervention we are now seeing light at the end of the tunnel” Kuyateh said.
He promised that the government will also start proving support by proving school leaning materials for the pupils in the school, to add to what the donors have provided the school so that all children will be entitled to have enough learning materials.
The Deputy Director also assured the donors and the people in the community that he will help to facilitate to ensure that the school is approve and qualified teachers at the school are approved.
Chiefdom Speaker and representative of the Paramount Chief, Tutor Kargbo described the event to be an historic event, saying that he believed that the school will help to improve primary education in the chiefdom.
“You have given us an everlasting property and we are also praying to have a secondary school and a college in this chiefdom” the chiefdom speaker said.
That he said, will help the community to breed the next generation of presidents, ministers, doctors, lawyers and people that will hold positions of trust in the future of the county.
But all that will be possible with the aid of donors and the government of Sierra Leone, he added.
