These systematic fire incidents have succeeded in wrecking the seven-storey building that is merely standing now as a death trap in central Freetown.
As at time of going to press in the evening hours of Saturday, the building that started blazing at around 9am in the morning hours of that day was still burning and oozing out thick black smoke.
Nearby residents had to pack out as the fire posed the threat of transferring to their houses.
Fire fighters could not contain the fire as a result of several factors including but not limited to the intensity of the fire and the struggle for water.
A fire officer who preferred not to be named said they were seriously challenged to put out the raging fire as a result of non-functional water hydrants in central Freetown.
“How can we succeed to save this building when we cannot access water on the very hydrant outside the Electricity Building and the one at Post Office,” he questioned, while informing that they were left with the strenuous option of running to the ‘only functional’ water hydrant at The Light in Brookfields.
Eyewitnesses commended the efforts of the fire fighters who at least managed to save other buildings amid the difficult circumstances they were faced with, but blamed the Guma Valley Water Company for the defunct hydrants across the city.
While the actual cause of the fire accident remains unknown, the general public is already highly suspicious of the multiple fire incidents in the government building.
Fingers are already pointing on officials in the building with accusations that the building was being torched by individuals.
Properties worth thousands if not millions of dollars belonging to the national power authority including prepaid meters, transmitters and transformers, were completely gutted down by fire.
Concerns are being raised by the public that what is suspected to be deliberate human activities of lighting up government buildings after massive embezzlement has succeeded in completely destroying the monumental electricity house building.
