The Government of Sierra Leone has announced that it will cover the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for all approved private candidates who were unable to participate in the May/June 2025 School WASSCE.
Communications Specialist at the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Augustine Bamie Anthony, said this initiative aims to ensure these candidates have the opportunity to sit for their examinations in November 2025.
He informed that in alignment with this commitment, the ministry has implemented some preparatory measures, which include free nationwide remedial classes for private candidates, engagement with school authorities to finalise arrangements for the November WASSCE examinations, and verification and data integrity.
He said the ministry is collaborating with Afrimoney to verify the list of registered private candidates and that this verification process is crucial for ensuring that government resources are allocated to the appropriate beneficiaries.
Augustine Bamie Anthony concluded, saying, “The Ministry assures the public that all essential arrangements are being made for the seamless conduct of the November 2025 WASSCE. Candidates are encouraged to take full advantage of the ongoing remedial classes, as this support offers a vital opportunity to improve their performance. The Government of Sierra Leone is steadfast in its dedication to expanding access to quality education, reducing financial barriers, and providing an equitable environment for all learners striving for academic success.”
