After completing eviction of traders on Abacha Street in Freetown, the Government of Sierra Leone has vowed to also evict traders on Guard street, ECOWAS street, Rawdon street and Wilberforce street, among other major street in the Central Business District.

This is according to the Chief Executive Officer of the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA), Mohamed Kallon who spoke to this reporter during an inspection tour of Road Safety Project yesterday 29th August, 2022.

He said the Project is in Phases and targeting several streets within the CBD with the First Phase targeting Abacha street and some parts of Goodrich street.

Director of Operations at SLRA, Ing. Alfred J Momodu explained that the Project is about demarcating between vehicular and pedestrian traffic by creating a sidewalk.

“With this project, the safety of pedestrians within the Central Business District (CBD) would be better” Ing. Momodu added.

The Project he went on is in Phases and that it is targeting several streets within the CBD with the Phase One targeting Abacha street and some parts of Goodrich street.

Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu yesterday led a team of institutional heads including Head of the Road Maintenance Fund Administration, Director of Operations at the Sierra Leone Roads Authority and representatives of the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority toured the country’s Central Business District to inspect road safety project.

IGP Sellu said the purpose was to get first-hand information on how the project was doing and to assess the security strength. The Project he said is being implemented by SLRA, RMFA and SLRSA.

“We are not implementing partner, our role is just to provide security to ensure the safety and security of the MDAs and equipment” the IGP said.
