She went on to state that though the environment is not conducive, they have a sizeable number of trainees that are practicing all sorts of gymnastics which she hopes would draw attraction and support from the government for them to do more. She added that gymnastics comprises of a total of four sporting disciplines including Africa Culture, Entertainment and a few others. “My intention is to establish an academy and I desperately seeking support because many young Sierra Leoneans male and female are showing up and want to learn gymnastics and so if I get the necessary support, I am sure that very soon Sierra Leone will have gymnasts that will excel at international gymnastics competitions,” Anna Williams told AYV and used the opportunity to extend her message to President Julius Maada Bio who she commended for being the reviver of football in the country, adding that she hopes the president will do the same for gymnastics in the country. Anna Williams is a household name in Sierra Leone sports. She was spotted by her Physical Health Education Department teachers, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Joeafadeah respectively of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) in the late 70s for her avid interest and potential in gymnastics while she was in the school’s junior department. “I am also a versatile athlete and I have several international and national records to my name. I sprint, play volley ball, table tennis, swim, play handball and soccer,” Anna Williams maintained. AYV learnt that Anna Williams is the first Sierra Leonean female CAF and FIFA Instructor. She was also one-time coach for the U-17 to senior female national teams respectively.  She maintained that she has approached the Administrative Officer at the Chamber of Commerce in China who helped Sierra Leone to participate among other nations around the world including Tanzania, Kenya, Palestine, Ethiopia, Nepal, and Laos which saw Sierra Leone’s Hassan Kamara and Samuel Bangura and others awarded certificates and recommended for their outstanding performances. Currently, the Sierra Leone Gymnastics Federation is preparing four young boys to represent the nation in China for the 2019-2020 competitions. She said she is training the children to become teachers of gymnastics in the future as well. Meanwhile, the Federation is working out modalities to begin scouting talents especially among the less privileged across the nation in schools and homes.
