He said their visit was to share and join them in sympathy as an institution and the families of those they have lost, adding that to have a situation like that when they are not at war with these percentages of lost is very sadden.

Dr. Wurie said they feel that Sierra Leone should not go to such disaster any more, but on the other side it shows the level of preparedness they are to an extent that the hospital was able to manage these cases well.

He said the donation was to replenish their stock for what they have used during the crisis and to improve their state of preparedness for any such incidences. He added that secondly, the free health care drugs for pregnant women, lactating mothers, children under-fives adding that this year it has been extended to disability people and Ebola Survivors.

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Col. Rtd. Semion Naseru Sheriff said the donation came at a time when it was badly needed and thanked the Ministry of Health for the support.

He said they are witnessing one of an overlapping function between the Health Ministry and the 34 Military hospital and on behalf of his boss assured that the items will be used for their intended purposes.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Brima Sesay said the donation can never been welcome than now, as the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) is critically short of drugs, adding that for the Ministry to donate these drugs is most welcome.

He said the 34 Military hospital is not only serving the military personnel but it also serves the civilian and immediate community in and around Wilberforce, adding that most of these services render are almost free of cost.

The Commanding Officer, Joint Medical Unit, Lt. Col. Dr. Stephen Sevalie described the incidence as an acute crisis in which personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and civilians were involved in a gruesome road accident along Spur Road.

He informed the gathering that in total they had 81 causalities, adding that on day one of the accident all causalities came to the 34 Military hospital with eight (8) dead on arrival. He added that they got lot of support in managing the situation from partners, adding that Connaught hospital has been very supportive from day one as they were able to take 14 causalities and the Emergency hospital took 22 causalities.

The ceremony was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Mr. David Banya.

Handing over of the drugs and a conducted tour of the accident victims formed high point of the ceremony.
