Justice Edwards recapitulated the submissions of Plaintiffs Counsel that, his Clients raised several reservations and concerns at the party’s recent lower level, districts, constituencies and executive elections, but that the electoral board of the party, did nothing to ensure that their reservations and concerns were appropriately addressed.
Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie submitted that, his Clients prayed for an interlocutory injunction on the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, and at the same time restrained the party to go ahead with their planned national delegate conference, slated for February 2017, in the eastern district town of Kenema.
He also recapitulated the submissions, Umaru Napoleon Koroma at previous adjourned date that, one of the Plaintiffs, Lawyer Alhaji Kamara never exhibited membership card or document to indicate that, he was an elected delegate.
The presiding judge further intimated his audience, lawyer Napoleon Koroma had also argued for High court not to grant any interlocutory injunction on Sierra Leone Peoples Party, stating that any injunction on the party would undermine and further throw spanners into the party ongoing administrative arrangement, as well as the country’s general election slated for February 2018.
Counsel for Defendants, Justice Edwards strongly argued that, the court should allow the Sierra Leone Peoples Party to proceed with all arraignment relating to the party’s robust stance and strategies to clinch Sierra Leones political hegemony in the 2018 general elections, adding that his Clients were national officers of the party and responsible for the day to day running of the party.
At this stage of the court proceeding, the Judge suggested to both Counsel for Plaintiffs and Defendants to slate a convenient date, where Plaintiff’s lawyer, Sulaiman Banja Tejan –Sie is expected to file in another affidavits of violations at the party’s recent lower level, districts, thirty nine constituencies and executive elections.
Lawyer, Napoleon Koroma also responded by stating that, he intended to file in another an affidavit in opposition, on next adjourned date.
Justice Babatunde Edwards has adjourned the matter to Wednesday 25 January 2017.
