Higher Education Ministry champions smooth leadership transition in NUSS

In a landmark move to promote peaceful leadership transitions within the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS), the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, under the visionary leadership of Minister Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Deputy Minister Mr. Sarjoh Aziz-Kamara, and EJ Momoh Esq., Director of Education, convened a pivotal consultative meeting. This high-level dialogue brought together President-Elect Madam Fiona Ngima, aspirants from the recent NUSS elections—including Mr. Bockarie Komeh Turay (Fourah Bay College) and Mr. Mohamed Alex Koroma (Njala University)—alongside Student Union Presidents from all major tertiary institutions. The engagement underscored the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to fostering unity, accountability, and collaborative governance in student leadership.  

Honorable Minister Dr. Wurie, in a compelling address, stressed the significance of establishing a precedent for peaceful leadership transitions and constructive dialogue. She encouraged them to set aside differences and unite behind the newly elected president. Emphasizing maturity and engagement as cornerstones of effective conflict resolution, the Minister reaffirmed her Ministry’s readiness to support the transition process, ensuring adherence to democratic principles and institutional continuity. Her message served as a resounding reminder of the pivotal role unity and shared vision play in strengthening student governance structures.  

President-Elect Madam Fiona Ngima conveyed profound gratitude for the Ministry’s proactive leadership in fostering post-election reconciliation. She pledged to lead with inclusivity, transparency, and innovation, addressing students’ pressing challenges through a collaborative approach. Mr. Bockarie Komeh Turay and Mr. Mohamed Alex Koroma lauded the Ministry’s adept management of electoral grievances and committed to supporting the new administration. Notably, all six Student Union Presidents representing Sierra Leone’s tertiary institutions unequivocally endorsed Madam Ngima’s leadership, marking a unified front dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of NUSS. The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen student governance and contribute to the nation’s developmental agenda.
