Since he was elected in 2018 Hon. Tawa has continued on the path of development as part of the reasons for which he was elected by the people of Constituency 132, in the west of Freetown. The trust and risk the people took were not misplaced. Their move turned out to be a right decision of the general constituents of that constituency.

The duties and responsibilities of a member of parliament are to make laws and perform oversight to the activities of the other arms of government and their agencies. However, Hon. Tawa, 36, who is undertaking community development projects with his own money is just one of the reasons for the support he garners from his people and the respect he commands among his peers. He has kept to his pre-elections commitment through his actions.

The young politician once said that he would not rest until his constituency experienced a turnaround in terms of development, and he had since encouraged other politicians to honour their promises made during campaigns. He confirmed that he was motivated by the drive of His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio to transform Sierra Leone, adding that he would not only be performing his normal duties of an MP but would also continue on the path of his development programmes in the constituency.

Before Hon. Tawa was elected he undertook the following development projects:  Supported sections of Kaningo communities with electricity cables and poles, addressed water crisis by building water wells or bore holes in various communities and erected taps at Lumley Market, Juba Community, Pottor Community, Regent Road, among others. He had also attempted to address hygiene problems in the constituency by constructing toilet facilities in different communities and organising monthly cleaning exercises, renovated the Lumley-Regent Road Market (Black Tank), provided Kaningo community school with furniture and learning materials and supported the construction of Lokotong motor and Pedestal Bridge and the Kaningo board bridge.

Hon, Tawa, as he is fondly called and which loosely translates in the local Krio parlance as “perseverance”, “determination”, “diligence” or “consistency” had also provided psychosocial support for flood and fire victims in constituency 132, gave scholarship for pupils in his constituency. He believes in the power of education and the prospect of self-determination for a generation that is educated and empowered.

That was before event he was voted as the representative of his people at Constituency 132. After the 2018 elections, he became their MP and in Parliament the Hon. Tawa Conteh has tried to deliver on a few development programmes, sometimes to the extent of helping people in the nearby constituency of at 130 and 131.

In the last 18 months and since his election, he has renovated the entire Lumley Market as well as constructed new and unique market tables, renovated Services Secondary School at Juba, constructed a school hall with a pavilion of 500 seating capacity for the school at the Juba Barracks, Lumley.

The young lawmaker has also dug bore holes in six different communities in constituency 132, in addition to what he had done before election. He has started the pavement of the main feeder road, connecting the rest of the catchment communities at Kaningo and constructed a solid bridge connecting Pottor-Levuma to Gbendembu and Majay Town communities.

He has also constructed two building of sixteen-room toilet facilities at Juba Barracks for the military men, women and their families with twelve wash rooms, attempted to address the water crisis at Juba by rehabilitating the stand pipes that he had built during the campaign for the juba community and its environs. As MP he has provided psychosocial support for fire victims at Kamayama, including supply of beddings, ten bundles of zinc, five bails of used clothing for men, women and children, ten dozens of sticks, three cartons of wire nails, five boxes of roofing nails, bags of rice, oil, onions and other personal support.

He has also used his small community development funds and his own fundraisers to construct a multi storey school building at Lumley Road, No.9 Community and he has promised to undertake more development programmes in his constituency to ensure that his people have better living conditions.

Hon. Tawa Conteh is not just into development programmes to the extent of abandoning his duty as a Member of Parliament, he is one of the finest lawmakers for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party and has been very vibrant making relevant contributions in the well of parliament during debates. He leads in the performance of his oversight roles in the different committees that he has been assigned to and seeks the interest of his constituents and the people of Sierra Leone.

At the moment Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh is rewriting the duties and responsibilities of parliamentarian in Constituency 132 and people of many other constituencies are asking for their Members of Parliament to follow his footsteps. He is setting a precedent just as his President, Julius Maada Bio, to deliver on promises made during campaigns. He has been branded the son of Mr. ‘Tok and Do’.
