Former Principal of the Prince of Wales (POW) Secondary School in Kingtom, Ms. Millicent Ogoo has described Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh as a Jewel, who served his time at the School with all diligence.

Speaking to newsmen, Mamie Ogoo, as she was affectionately called, said: “He was one of the good pupils; he was brilliant and I will say he is still brilliant. He won laurels for the School; he is among four pupils that distinguished themselves in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2003 by scoring 6 straight As. I felt so good and decided to name him ‘My Jewel’, and he is still my Jewel”.

Mamie Ogoo said David was brilliant but very troublesome, while giving an account of when David was caught at the sea at the back of her office, an area that was declared out of bounds to all pupils because of the fear of them being drowned.

She said: “One of my school prefects brought him to me, and I was like; what! David you? I made a teacher give him six strokes of a cane and I summoned his dad. His Dad wanted us to beat him further but I said no, we have given him enough beating”.

Mamie Ogoo went on to say that was one unforgettable moment with her encounter with David, noting that he could have drowned and she won’t be having somebody today as a Chief Minister. She talked about David’s love for football, noting that even as Deputy Senior Prefect David was playing football with his friends, and later when it is time for discipline, he will discipline them as well.

“I used to tell him on some occasions that you have to draw the line very straight. He will have his dos and don’ts and wrongs and his rights, but not that troublesome to the point of being rude or disrespectful. He absolutely deserves being appointed as my Deputy Senior Prefect and he has measured up to it. Seeing him now as the country’s Chief Minister, I feel so good in my heart that I have nurtured somebody that has my disciplinary training. And, he is fit to lead Sierra Leone or to rule and provide leadership to senior people in society. David, even though you are now Chief Minister you will still be my David. I wish you happy birthday and I wish you all the best in advance”.
