“I’m here to continue President Bio’s legacy”- SLPP newly elected National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa

The newly elected National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Jimmy Batilo Songa has vowed that he will support and continue the legacy of Dr. Julius Maada Bio in the Party. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Bio for his leadership and vision in uniting both the Party and the nation, stating: “I am here to support and continue the legacy of the best president our country has ever had, President Julius Maada Bio. I am committed to doing everything possible to keep our party in governance by winning the 2028 elections.”

He thanked the outgoing national officers for their dedication and stewardship, promising to build on their work by strengthening party structures and expanding membership nationwide. Songa also commended the Independent Elections Monitoring and Oversight Committee (IEMOC) for conducting a free, fair, and transparent election that reflected the views and aspirations of party delegates.

President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, joined delegates of the SLPP at the 2025 National Delegates Conference in Freetown to elect national officers for a three-year mandate, ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The two-day conference brought together delegates, party members, and observers from across the country to deliberate and make critical decisions for the party’s future.

At the close of a successful conference, new national officers were elected, reflecting broad national representation from across political regions. The new leadership includes National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa, Deputy Chairman Robert Kondema Kargbo, Secretary-General Hon. Umar ParanTarawallie, Deputy Secretary-General Sheku M Turay, Organising Secretary Alhassan Balogun George, Deputy Organising Secretary Mahawa Alieu, Public Relations Officer Moses Mambu, Financial Secretary Sharka Sannoh, Treasurer Judith Kosseh, Internal Auditor Augustine Tommy, AlhajiSheikh Fouad Sheriff, Chaplain Rev. Smart Senessi, Legal Adviser I, Anthony Yeihwoe Brewah,  Alpha Sesay Esq., Legal Adviser II and Hon. Hindolo M. Gevao Esq., Legal Adviser III.

President Bio thanked delegates for their time, patience, and trust in the newly elected officers. He commended the winners for their humility and loyalty to the party, stating that their election signaled the party’s strong intent to win the 2028 national elections.

“The SLPP is the best choice for this country,” the President assured. “This election reflects national unity and demonstrates the values of family, peace, and democratic precedence. You have elected a blend of gentlemen and ladies through a peaceful and well-organised process.”

He stressed that the process reaffirmed the SLPP’s commitment to democracy and inclusion, and that the delegates’ informed choices position the party as a united force heading into the next election cycle.

Chairman of the Party Elections Monitoring Committee (IEMOC), Ambassador Mohamed Yongawo, praised the delegates for their patience, discipline, and faith in the electoral process. He extended appreciation to committee members for their tireless service and reaffirmed their continued commitment to the SLPP.
