Champions of the Sierra Leone Premier League, East End Lions FC, defeated Leone Stars, the country’s senior men’s national team, 2-0 in a high-profile friendly match at the Approved School Field in Freetown.
The match formed part of Leone Stars’ build-up for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Guinea Bissau (September 4) and Ethiopia (September 9). For East End Lions, it also served as preparation for their CAF Champions League preliminary qualifiers against Tunisia’s Union Sportive Monastirienne.

Thousands of enthusiastic supporters stormed the venue to witness the much-anticipated clash. Leone Stars dominated the first half, creating several chances but failing to convert.
The second half saw a rejuvenated East End Lions side after a tactical reshuffle. Mohamed Y. Sesay opened the scoring in the 71st minute, and Alie Conteh doubled the lead in the 83rd minute, capitalising on a brilliant cross from Sam Diallo.
“Our boys gave it their all and showed great spirit,” said East End Lions Head Coach Mohamed Lamin Kamara after the match.
In recognition of their performance, newly appointed Leone Stars Technical Manager Abdul Kareem Bangura awarded East End Lions a cash prize of Le15,000.
