The stage is set for a monumental occasion in the realm of broadcast media in Sierra Leone as the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, prepares to assume the role of keynote speaker at the official launch of the Sierra Leone Broadcasters Association (SiLBA).

This historic event is scheduled to take place on 4th July, 2024 at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the broadcast industry in the country.

Established in 2022, SiLBA emerges as a beacon of progress and advocacy in the realm of broadcast media, spearheading efforts to fulfill the critical need for a national umbrella association dedicated to safeguarding the rights, promoting the interests, and enhancing the welfare of broadcasters across Sierra Leone.

With a membership base comprising 55 radio stations spread throughout the nation, SiLBA stands poised to revolutionize the landscape of electronic media through its commitment to professionalism, unity, and excellence.

The launch event, which will be presided over by the esteemed Senior Journalist Umaru Fofana, promises to be a gathering of luminaries and industry stakeholders, uniting in celebration of SiLBA’s vision for a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable media environment that upholds the highest standards of broadcast professionalism.

Stanley Bangura Jr., Chairman of the Association, expressed his excitement for the upcoming launch, emphasising SiLBA’s commitment to fostering a climate of cooperation, innovation, and growth within the broadcasting sector.

“At SiLBA, our vision is centered on creating an environment where broadcasters and electronic media institutions can thrive, addressing their needs and collective interests while championing the highest levels of professional standards,” remarked Stanley Bangura Jr.

The association’s mission, as articulated by the Secretary General, Daniel Amara, reflects a dedication to promoting unity, best practices, and gender-sensitive programming that resonates with the diverse audiences of Sierra Leone.

SiLBA has outlined a comprehensive set of objectives that underscore its commitment to advancing the welfare of its members and catalyzing positive change within the broadcasting industry. Among the key objectives are:

Advancing Member Interests: SiLBA is steadfast in advocating for the welfare and development of its members, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are protected.

Addressing National Broadcasting Issues: Serving as a platform for dialogue on critical issues such as laws, policies, and advertising regulations, SiLBA aims to shape a responsible and free press environment.

Promoting Safety and Security: SiLBA prioritizes the safety and security of its member organizations, providing a protective framework for broadcasters to operate effectively.

Enhancing Broadcasting Quality: Through advocacy and support, SiLBA seeks to elevate the quality, sustainability, and profitability of broadcasting institutions across Sierra Leone.

Encouraging Content Creation: SiLBA is committed to nurturing a culture of content creation, distribution, and technological innovation among its members, empowering stations to better serve their communities.

Supporting Training Initiatives: By facilitating training programs and opportunities for career advancement, SiLBA aims to empower its members and foster diversity within the workplace.

International Networking: SiLBA endeavors to establish robust connections with entities worldwide, ensuring that Sierra Leone’s broadcasting interests are recognized and upheld on a global scale.

As the countdown to the SiLBA launch event accelerates, anticipation mounts within the broadcasting community, signaling the dawn of a new era characterized by collaboration, innovation, and excellence in Sierra Leone’s media landscape. Minister Chernor Bah’s presence as the keynote speaker underscores the government’s commitment to supporting and fostering a thriving broadcast sector, as SiLBA embarks on its journey to shape a future where broadcasters can flourish and contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-cultural tapestry.
