The Parliament of Sierra Leone has received donations worth over USD 40,000 from the International IDEA Sierra Leone chapter, supported by the European Union.
The items included ten Desktop Computers, seven laptop computers and giant Printer.
The donation ceremony was held at the Speaker’s Board Room in Freetown, where Finda Fraser, Director General of Parliament, expressed gratitude for the timely support. She acknowledged IDEA International’s long-standing relationship with Parliament and assured them of judicious use of the items.
Responding the country Representative of IDEA Dr.IdrissMahmud Tarawallie expressed his organisation’s continued working relationship with Parliament and later assured Parliament of more support.
IDEA International has been working closely with the Parliament of Sierra Leone, particularly through the Sierra Leone Democracy Strengthening Project, funded by the European Union. This project aims to strengthen Democratic Institutions, including the Electoral Commission, the Political Party Regulation Commission, and the Independent Media Commission.
The organisation also promotes Electoral Reforms with a special focus on the implementation geared towards the recommendations from the Tripartite Committee and the EU Election Observation Mission and Citizen Participation to foster inclusive and peaceful political dialogue, focusing on women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
The partnership between IDEA International and the Parliament of Sierra Leone reflects their shared commitment to promoting democracy and good governance in the country.
The ceremony was climaxed by the handing over and signing of the documentation regarding the items.
