Dr. Koroma aligned the mission’s visit to a meeting hosted in Accra, Ghana by the University of Michigan, Department of Obstetrics /Gynecologist of Global Initiatives generously funded by both Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Flora Family Foundation. A meeting he attended that ignited the visit of the team after an educative and impressive professional presentation. 

The purpose of that meeting Dr. Koroma said was to bring together a group of 120 Obstetricians and Gynecologists from academic administration in both high and low income countries in sub-Saharan Africa alongside the Ministry, and policy makers from professional support organizations. The dialogue he said attracted the current visit to the Ministry.

Team Leader, Professor Jean Anderson reiterated their commitment to sharing partnership with a view to building capacity in reproductive health issues.

She said they are very active in global health, women’s reproductive health and Midwifery in the African sub-region adding that part of their mission is to seek approval on needs assessment from the Ministry and to register their commitment to provide positive assistance on postgraduate training and capacity building.

Welcoming the team, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brima Kargbo described the team’s mission as a welcome development to the Ministry, adding that there are few colleagues in the Ministry that would be interested to upgrade their skills.

He said the move, spearheaded by Dr. Alimamy Philip Koroma is a good initiative noting that Africa depend more on Task-shifting in the absence of adequate specialized human resource capacity in our health facilities.
