Sierra Leone is scheduled to hold elections tomorrow June 24, 2023. Citizens will go to the polls to elect a president, members of parliament and local councillors.

This will mark the country’s fifth consecutive presidential elections since the end of the brutal 11-year civil war – more than two decades ago –which left many dead.

While 13 candidates and parties will compete in the presidential race, the main candidates are incumbent President Dr. Julius Maada Bio from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and Dr. Mathew Wilson Samura Karama from the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party.

Executive Secretary at EC-SL, William Addo Davies said: “In the exercise of the powers vested on the Commission by Section 33 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991 (Act No. 6 of 1991), and pursuant to Sections 7, 42 and 171 of the Public Elections Act, 2022 (Act No, 17 of 2022) and The Public Elections (Early Voting) Regulations, 2023 (No.3 of 2023); the EC-SL will tomorrow conduct voting for Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Council Elections 2023”.
