Sierra Leonean international footballer Kei Kamara has shared a heartfelt message following the election of BabadiKamara as the new President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), calling for unity among stakeholders and respect for differing opinions within the football community.
Kei Ansu Kamara is a professional Sierra Leonean footballer who plays as a striker for FC Cincinnati in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the National Team.
In a public statement, Kamara expressed his gratitude to all those who participated in the electoral process, acknowledging that while not everyone voted for the same candidate, each voice mattered and deserved respect. “That does not shame the others that voted differently,” Kamara said. “We are all entitled to our opinions. We must respect each other.”
Kamara congratulated Babadi Kamara, no relation, on his election, describing him as deserving of the role and expressing hope that the new leadership will bring renewed energy and vision to Sierra Leonean football. While noting that he is not fully aware of the new president’s roadmap, the forward emphasised the importance of inclusiveness in moving the sport forward.
“I hope this move does not push your non-voters off to a different direction,” he stated. “I hope you all can still find a way to come together to help him make football sweet naSalone.”
The former Major League Soccer (MLS) striker also took a moment to acknowledge outgoing SLFA president Thomas Daddy Brima for his contributions, particularly in helping guide Sierra Leone to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during his tenure. “You left the game better than you met it, and I thank you for that, big brother,” Kamara noted, adding a personal touch with lighthearted remarks about their ongoing friendly debate over who deserved credit for the nation’s AFCON qualification.
In closing, Kamara directed his message to his fellow footballers, encouraging them to remain passionate and prepared for opportunities both on and off the pitch. He emphasised the importance of athletes considering leadership roles in the future and leaving a lasting legacy for the younger generation.
“We HAVE to leave something behind for we young ones dem but also shoot for presidential positions when our time comes,” he said.
Kamara’s statement has resonated widely among fans and stakeholders, with many praising the tone of maturity, encouragement, and unity, qualities seen as vital to the next chapter of Sierra Leone’s football development. As BabadiKamara assumes the Presidency of the SLFA, the message serves as a timely reminder of the need for collaboration and shared responsibility in the growth of the game.
