Kingho Mining Company, a subsidiary of Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG), has reaffirmed its commitment to local communities with the payment of NLe1,810,203 in surface rent to Sambaia and Dansogoia chiefdoms in Tonkolilidistrict.
The payments were made in accordance with the Mines and Minerals Act of 2009, which mandates mining companies to compensate communities directly affected by their operations.
Sambaia chiefdom received NLe1,010,845, while Dansogoiachiefdom received NLe799,358.
The ceremony took place at the respective chiefdom Barraysand was attended by Hon. Paramount Chief Alhaji Musa Banbaforay Kolio Jalloh III of Sambaia chiefdom and Paramount Chief Alimammy Bockarie Yallan Koroma III of Dansogoia chiefdom.
Community stakeholders, landowners, and local representatives also witnessed the occasion.
Representing the company, Mr. Alusine A. Sesay, Community Manager of Kingho Mining Company, said the payments underscored the company’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and peaceful coexistence with host communities.
He noted that beyond being a legal requirement, surface rent is a vital part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
“This gesture reflects Kingho Mining Company’s desire to strengthen its partnership with the people, ensuring that our operations contribute positively to community development,” Mr. Sesay said.
The Paramount Chiefs expressed gratitude on behalf of their people, commending Kingho Mining Company for its consistency in meeting this obligation. They highlighted the importance of such payments in fostering trust, development, and lasting peace between the company and the communities.
The official documentation of entitlement was signed by the Paramount Chiefs and landowners’ representatives to confirm receipt of payment.
The ceremony concluded with renewed assurances from Kingho Mining Company that it would continue to uphold its obligations and contribute to the development of host communities.
