She called the Tribal Heads present and the Mende Sub-Chiefs not to undermine justice by imposing excessive fines on people appearing before their court. Also, they should not tell people to take bets.

‘Do not use money to deprive people of justice,’ she said adding, ‘Most people would rather go to your court than go to the General Court, I therefore urge you not to betray their trust.’

She said the elections are over and that we should respect the will of the people who have elected their President. ‘The elections have produced winners and losers who should embrace each other and work for the good of the country,’ she said. She urged them to leave politics to the politicians and focus on healing the wounds left behind by the elections.

She urged them to unite around the aims and objective of the organization which she described as good. She reminded them that politicians will come and go but the organization and its members will remain.  She warned against repeating the mistakes of the past which brought about the war. She urged those who have problems not to take the law into their hands but should seek redress in the courts.

The Mende Tribal Headman for the Western Area, Chief Mathew Gibao Young described the organization as a muster seed which will grow and unite the Mende people. He stated that the organization is not here to promote tribalism but to promote the culture and tradition of the Mende people. ‘We have invited the Tribal Headmen from the other tribes to demonstrate our commitment to working together to pursue issues of mutual interest,’ he said.

Other speakers include Mrs. Marian Murray of the Plan International, President of the Temne Council Issa Catco Kamara and representative of civil society Charles Mambu.
