Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Trade and Industry has encouraged all countrymen and women to come out and do their normal business on June 19, 20, 21, and beyond, like any other days in the calendar.
Deputy Trade Minister, Fatmata Kargbo led a team of ministry staff on visits to major markets, business centers and streets across the country to encourage traders, shop owners and residents not to close their businesses on June 19, 20, 21 and beyond, but to come out on the days and do their businesses as usual.
The clarion call from the ministry was aimed to refute and condemn rumors circulated on social media that the above days will be a shutdown period across the country in honor of an alleged planned demonstration countrywide.
Deputy Minister Kargbo urged Sierra Leoneans and people residence in Sierra Leone not to fall for incitement or misleading social media messages like such.
She said: “Like any other days, come out and do your normal businesses. Have confidence in our President and our security forces, they are fully in control and committed to protecting the peace and security of our country”.
In all the deputy minister’s stops, traders and residents expressed relief and understanding after receiving assurances from the ministry. They assured the deputy minister that they will come out and go about their normal businesses and activities on the said days like they used to do on all other days.
They commended the deputy minister and team for meeting them to raise public awareness on happenings.
