He revealed that the college would also capacitate lecturers and other staff for which some lecturers are already pursuing their Masters and PhDs.

He also affirmed that at the end of the training, they would include physical exercise so that the thought process of the security guards would change for the benefit of all. He reminded them that there are very important documents in the administrative building that they must secure at all times and appealed to them not to drink, smoke or steal.

The workshop, held at the Great Hall of the Goderich campus, was attended by over 48 security guards who were assured by the acting Principal that this is the beginning of more trainings in future and urged them to encourage their children who are technically inclined to seek admission to the MMCE&T.

According to the Acting Principal, without peace and security the country would not develop. He warned that politics is over and that all and sundry must now join the development train by partnering with the administration to rebrand the college and take ownership of it.

Dr. Kanu admonished the participants to pay rapt attention to the lectures, adding that after the training, they would be on probation for two years, and that they must present reliable guarantors. He warned them against absenteeism without valid excuse for which they can be dismissed, but encouraged them to be vigilant, active and dynamic at all times and appealed to them to make sacrifices as salaries might not always be regular. However, he assured them that those that are qualified would serve the college in the capacity of security guards.

He went on to state that their work could be dangerous at times; the reason why their numerical strength has been increased to enable them protect lives and college properties better. He admonished them that they must patrol their beats regularly, not to sleep on duty, not to engage in sand or stone mining around the areas but concentrate wholly and solely on protecting the lives and properties at the college premises.

Topics covered during the interactive training included writing reports, how to take inventory, preparing handing over notes, dress code/appearance and discipline.

The Chief Security Officer, Amadu Sesay disclosed that the training would help them overcome the challenges affecting their work. He commended the college administration for the initiative, which he said is the first in the history of the college and pledged that with the training and equipment they would do their best to protect lives and properties at the college.

At the end of the training, new uniforms, caps, boots, raincoats, torch lights, whistles, walkie-talkies and other security gadgets were distributed to the guards to enhance their work.
