The Director, National Authorizing Office, Ambrose James informed the press that the theme of the European Union (EU) funded project is: “Improving Road Infrastructure as a Driving Force for Economic Growth and Sustainable Development”.

Mr. James highlighted the road’s benefits after its completion which include reduced vehicle operating costs, travel time and increased rural development.

Mr. James said there are various layers that monitor the Moyamba-Moyamba Road Junction Project with SLRA taking the centre stage.

He also said there is a Consultancy Firm known as Politechnica which made sure that the work is done properly. Basically, the Director noted that they too make sure that they monitor the project as to see the right and expected work is done by CSE, the Contractor of the project. Mr. James took his time explaining the role of his office.

Explaining the progress made so far in the Moyamba – Moyamba Junction Road Project, Mr. James Fayia, Deputy Project Manager at Sierra Leone Roads Authority said about 9km out of 32.8km of asphalt surfacing has been completed.

Mr. Fayia also said one abutment and related foundations of the existing Moyamba Bridge has been demolished. “The blinding concrete for Moyamba Bridge footing has been carried out. For Gbangbama Bridge part of elevation has been poured. The Moyamba Junction crushing plant continues to produce aggregate for base cause and concrete, and asphaltic concrete. This will see an improvement in the road network between Moyamba to Bo-Masiaka highway which in turn shall increase access to the South and Eastern provinces respectively. This vital road link to remaining sites in Rutile, Mokanjie and fishing communities in Gbangabatoke and Shenge, will further facilitate easier movement to and from these areas,” he maintained.
