The Minister of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie, has officially presented the National Country Planning Bill before the Parliament of Sierra Leone. The bill was tabled on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, marking a significant step forward in the country’s efforts to develop a comprehensive framework for national land use and spatial development.
The presentation of the bill aligns with the government’s commitment to promote sustainable development and orderly urbanization across Sierra Leone. It aims to establish clear policies and regulations that will guide land use planning, zoning, and infrastructural development throughout the country.
Minister Senesie has emphasized the importance of a well-structured national planning system to support economic growth, environmental sustainability, and improved quality of life for Sierra Leoneans. He also highlighted that the legislation will facilitate better coordination and devolution of functions among government agencies, local authorities, and stakeholders involved in land management.
The National Country Planning Bill, once ratified, is expected to serve as a vital legal instrument to address the challenges of rapid urbanization, unplanned settlements, and land conflicts.
The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Country Planning is committed to working closely with Parliament and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the successful passage and implementation of this critical legislation. The Ministry encourages public engagement and feedback as part of the consultative process leading to the bill’s enactment.
