At the Kamakwie Court Barray in the Karene district, the National Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC), Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has called for peace and national cohesion and no riot before during and after the 2023 polls.

On behalf of the Strategic Progressive Alliance, representing President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, in the ancestral home of his late mother, Haja Binta Yumkella, Hon. Yumkella joined the SLPP Karene District Chairman, Abdul Y. Turay and the SLPP executive on the campaign day of the SLPP and the launching of the ‘Mualiama Thorkporma Organisation’ (Don’t Forget the Palm Tree) in Karene district.

Hon. Yumkella called for young people to consider the message of Peace, of hope and of a National Cohesion and avoid any external influences urging them to cause violence.

In his speech, Dr. Yumkella reflected on his grandfather, PC Kandeh Kolleh, a descendant of the Kandeh Bockariyah Ruling House, of Sella Limba, who was also the Paramount Chief of Fintonia. He fondly recalled how the people of Kamakwei have been hospitable to various ethnic groups from the country and their productivity in agriculture and trade.

He encouraged them to reflect on the days that they used to export tobacco from Sella Limba and Sanda Loko areas in the 60’s and 80’s. He encouraged them that President Bio’s prioritisation of agriculture means that, this part of the country stands to benefit a lot from a Bio second term.

He promised them about the future where the Grand Alliance will be able to work with progressives in the APC to help promote the development and transformation of Sella Limba and Tambakah areas in the near future.

Hon. Yumkella said that his NGC Party is solidly backing the SLPP candidates at the Karene district to win at all levels. He said it is in the interest of Peace and development. He mentioned that it is only when there is peace and stability in the country that development partners will be confident to come and invest, thereby creating job opportunities for young people.

He said the Youth must be wise to choose between following the dictates of a man living in Europe comfortably and asking them to cause mayhem in the country rather than to embrace peace and support political leaders who have decided to work together despite their party ideologies in the interest of the country.
