President Julius Maada Bio delivered a forceful address during a town hall meeting, condemning Members of Parliament and judges for their alleged involvement in the unauthorized sale of state-owned land.

He described those actions as a “betrayal of public trust” and emphasised that “no one is above the law.”

The President expressed his alarm over the rising incidents of land grabbing by individuals in positions of authority. “I have great respect for the integrity of our judges,” he stated, “but I will not sit by and allow anyone, regardless of their title or position, to sell government land for their selfish interests.”

While reaffirming the importance of judicial independence, President Bio noted that recent reports have implicated certain judges and parliamentarians in questionable land transactions. He vowed to take action against those involved, declaring, “This government will not tolerate the misuse of state assets for personal gain.”

To address the issue, President Bio announced plans to work directly with local authorities, including community headmen, who are often the first to know about illegal land sales. “I will be engaging the local authorities directly,” he said. “We must work together to protect what belongs to the people.”

President Bio concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, promising that those found guilty of misconduct related to land grabbing would face the full force of the law.
