He made this statement at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Information and Communication conference room, Youyi Building in Freetown on Thursday 27th June, 2019.

Also addressing journalists, General Manager of National Petroleum Sierra Leone (NP-SL), Kobi Walker said oil marketing companies are faced with many challenges which are responsible for the fluctuation of the price of petroleum products.

He added that the frequent hike in the value of the US Dollar to the local Leone currency, added to PLATTS and other unforeseen fluctuations are some of the major factors affecting the pump price of fuel.

However, the Head of Operation and Monitoring at the Petroleum Regulatory Agency, Sallieu Kamara confirmed that there is currently enough petroleum in the market and that the price of fuel remains the same.

Making a statement, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Sadiq Sillah assured the general public that his ministry is working to ensure that commercial drivers do not take advantage of the situation and will also ensure that the normal transport rates are maintained.  

However, many citizens who spoke with AYV said they are hoping that the price of petroleum products would not be increased as it will affect transportation costs and the cost of basic commodities like rice, oil, sugar and others in the market.
