Parliament enacts  Education Commission Act 2025

The Parliament of Sierra Leone has passed into law with some amendments, the Bill entitled: Tertiary Education Commission Act, 2024, for the development of Sierra Leone.

The Bill went through proper scrutiny by the Legislative Committee and the Committee of the Whole House before it was passed into law. 

The Bill seeks to provide for the regulation of Tertiary Education Institutions throughout Sierra Leone and to provide for other related matters. 

Presenting the Report of the Legislative Committee, the Chairman of the Legislative Committee in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Sulaiman Marray-Conteh told Members of Parliament at the Plenary that the Bill was properly scrutinised.

He assured the House that the Report is the unanimous decision of the Committee. According to the Chairman, during the Legislative Committee’s Meeting on the said Bill, professionals and experts were involved amidst consultations and position papers for proper scrutiny.

The Chairman additionally told Colleague MPs that,  the contents, clauses, parts, functions, titles, responsibilities, compositions of board and management, tenure  of offices, penalties, renumerations amongst others were looked into and examined for the aforesaid purposes. 

In another development, the Parliament of Sierra Leone has passed into law with some amendments, the related Bill entitled; “The National Council for Technical and Vocational Education Act, 2025”. 

The Bill seeks to solidify   the National Council for Technical, Vocational and other Academic Awards which is now to be known as the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education. It also seeks  to provide accreditation, validation, examination and certification services for awards in certain specialised and professional programmes in formal, non- formal and informal sectors and to provide for other related matters.

The related Bills were piloted by the Minister of Technical and Higher Education,  Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie. The two Bills went through similar scrutiny or amendments before enactment into law.
