The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Wednesday 28th September, 2022 through its ongoing professional development training commenced a two-day capacity building for Staff of fourteen departments on use of digital platforms for work with Parliament.
The training held at Parliament in Committee Room One is collaboration between the Parliament of Sierra Leone and the European Union Delegation to Sierra Leone under the 11th EDF Programme’s Technical Assistance to Parliament.
The training event is to capacitate and enable the Staff of Parliament to use the digital platforms for the work.
Calling the training to order, Sheku Lamin Turay, Director of Parliamentary and Public Relations Department said the training was linked to Goal 4 of the Parliament’s Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening relationship with the citizens of Sierra Leone to promote an open, transparent and an accountable parliament.
Speaking on the essence of the training and to encourage participants, the Key Expert to Parliament of the EU Technical Assistance Programme, Adams Fusheini explained the investment made by the EU Partnership with Parliament to overhaul the internet system of Parliament and asked participants to take the opportunity to upscale their skills and use of internet and intranet facilities the revamped system has.
He explained that applying the skills to be acquired will help improve their efficiency and collaboration across departments and staff, will enable them support more effectively the work of parliament, the parliamentarians and the Leadership and therefore making parliament contribute more in the democratic governance of country.
Applying technology in your work with skills you will acquire here, the Key Expert emphasized will enhance the pacesetter role Sierra Leone has already registered with the launch of e-Parliament initiative during the Parliament’s Open Day event in May this year.
He added that the digital platforms when used by staff will increase Parliament’s openness as citizens can access information online, and therefore making Parliament more accountable as it affords citizens participation in the work of Parliament.
The Principal Strategic Officer of the Center for Strategy and Parliamentary Studies (CSPS) Prince M. Kenneh spoke on the purpose of the training relating to understanding the website, electronic workbook, iCloud drive, HR data gathering, HR document system, and M and E Departmental Quarterly Reporting template.
Director of ICT, Joseph Conteh presented the necessary working tools relating to the e-Parliament rollout for the staff of parliament.
