Members of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Local Government and Rural Development have departed Freetown on an oversight visit to Kenema district.

In a pre-oversight exclusive interview with this Writer, Hon. Musa Fofana, Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Member of Parliament representing Kono district and Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Local Government and Rural Development explained the aim and objective of the oversight activity, the councils that will be targeted and what should be expected by the citizens.

He said that the oversight is a   continuation of the Special Oversight on the European Union (EU)/Government of Sierra Leone projects assigned to councils in Kambia, Karene, Bombali, Falaba Pujehun and Kenema districts respectively.

Hon. Musa said that the objective of the oversight mission is: “To specifically look at the projects at its physical face. All their projects have been handed over. We are doing due diligence from a parliamentary angle in a robust oversight with the contractors, Councils and the communities.”

What council’s and what specifically they are looking at, Hon. Musa said: “Logically, we are looking at the Kenema City Council for specifics on Own source revenue generation including, Property tax, Business licenses, Market dues and others.”

He reechoed that members of the Committee will for the next three days be looking at tangible projects implemented from their own source revenue.

As a way of assurance to the electorate, Members of the Committee deposited that: “Citizens must bank on the Committee’s commitment to facilitate the transparent service delivery, as addressed in the Local Government Act 2022”.
