 Pioneer Gold Exploration Company pays surface rent to Tonkolili chiefdoms

Pioneer Gold Exploration Company has demonstrated its commitment to best practices in the extractive industry by paying surface rent to the Simiria and Kaffeh chiefdoms in Tonkolili district. A total of NLe650,000 was paid for a one-year exploration license, with Simiria receiving over NLe434,500 and Kaffeh receiving NLe234,000.

According to Mohamed Alpha Bah, Manager of Pioneer Gold Exploration Company, the payment is in line with the Mines and Minerals Act. “We assure landowners and local authorities that we will comply with all regulations, not only by paying surface rent but also by contributing to the social and economic well-being of exploration communities,” he said.

The company also prioritises environmental protection, with Alpha Bah assuring locals that they will adhere to best practices in environmental management and protection.

Paramount Chief Bangura III of Simiria chiefdom commended the company for its compliance and thanked the government for designing mining policies that balance the interests of companies, landowners, and local authorities.

Councillor Abdul Karim Bangura, representing TonkoliliDistrict Council, praised the company’s effort to pay surface rent during the exploration stage. Sama Kanneh Bangura, on behalf of landowners, thanked Pioneer Gold Exploration Company for the timely payment.

This payment demonstrates Pioneer Gold Exploration Company’s commitment to responsible mining practices and its dedication to building positive relationships with local communities.
