In an effort to strengthen their partnership and combat corruption, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu.
The ACC team, led by Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie, met with IGP Sellu at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom to strategise on ways to mitigate corrupt practices within the Sierra Leone Police.

Ngobie expressed the ACC’s appreciation for the police’s efforts in crime reduction but noted that the behaviour of some officers undermines this progress. He emphasised the need for collaboration, particularly in training and in-service training, to effectively combat corruption.
Joshua Nicole, a Board Member of the ACC, highlighted the recent Afrobarometer survey which ranked the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) as one of the most corrupt institutions. However, he acknowledged the police’s progress in reducing crime and proposed joint training programmes to address corruption.
IGP Sellu welcomed the ACC’s initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to working together to enhance the police’s image. He noted that the SLP has undertaken measures to combat corruption, including dismissals and sanctions against officers found guilty of corrupt practices.
The police chief also highlighted the roles of the Integrity Management Committee (IMC) and the Complaint, Discipline, and Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) as key measures in addressing corruption. He expressed his determination to collaborate with the ACC to develop effective strategies for tackling corruption.
Other ACC Board Members commended the SLP’s efforts in maintaining safety and security, encouraging them to continue their good work.
