The Inspector General of Police (IGP), through the Principal Staff Officer department, has issued an administrative directive addressing the misuse of military uniforms by non-members, including some officers within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

The directive follows concerns raised by the leadership of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) during a recent National Security Council Coordination Group (NSCCG) meeting at the Office of National Security (ONS).

Officials highlighted the rampant use of military fatigues by individuals who are not part of the armed forces, warning that such actions could cause embarrassment and undermine the integrity of security institutions.

In response, all Regional Police Commands (RegPols), Directors, Legal and Unit Commanders (LUCs), and Heads of Departments (HoDs) have been instructed to encourage personnel to take pride in the police uniform and to refrain from wearing military attire.

The directive emphasized that failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.
