The Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, engaged in a pivotal meeting with the National Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (NCCC) at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Kingtom Police Barracks. The session aimed to deepen collaboration and address critical challenges facing police cyber investigations, with a focus on capacity building for officers.

During the engagement, Richard Redwood-Sawyer, Director of Cybersecurity Resilience at the NCCC, emphasised the Centre’s commitment to working closely with cyber investigators within the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).

He highlighted ongoing efforts to identify skill gaps and develop solutions, including the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) designed to guide cyber units. Redwood-Sawyer also underscored the importance of general security awareness and cybersecurity training as key components of their strategy.

The Sierra Leone Police cyber heads shared concerns over several key challenges impeding investigations and expressed the need for advanced cybersecurity training to equip personnel with the necessary skills to effectively combat cyber threats.

This historic engagement underscores a shared commitment to enhancing cybersecurity capabilities within the Sierra Leone Police. It also paves the way for future training programmes aimed at strengthening service delivery and positioning the Sierra Leone Police on a progressive trajectory.

IGP Sellu welcomed the initiative, urging closer collaboration with the NCCC and directing Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) David Mbayo, Head of ICT, to spearhead effective cooperation with the Centre.
