She added that after the establishment of the educational center they switched over to creating a pathway center, noting that DASL was established during the psycho-social and Christian counseling when they noticed that most of the affected girls did not want to go to school anymore because they were shy and afraid of stigmatization.
“We opened the computer school for them free of charge and we give them scholarship and we also provide school materials to school going children,” she said.
In his power-point presentation the Project Manager DASL, Abu Stephen Conteh said that because of the disastrous moments in the country, it gave them the inspiration to assist the children because as a nation people should be able in their own little ways to help the vulnerable that suffered during the Ebola period and the mudslide incident.
“When the disaster struck, many people were affected and we could not reach out to everybody because of the available resources. But we have been working with them providing psycho-social counseling,” Conteh said.
He added that they targeted three major intervention educational support to children that were affected in the Ebola and mudslide incidents; in addition to micro-finance support to business women who were affected and six months computer schooling scholarship to affected Ebola and mudslide victims.
According to Conteh, they donated Le500, 000, uniforms, solar lights and mosquito bed nets to thirty primary school going children. They gave Le1,500,000 each to 15 business women as loans to be repaid later within a specific period. 35 students were also assisted with computer scholarship, he said.
