Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has appointed Mrs. Tuma Adama Gento-Kamara as a member of the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, pursuant to Section 140 (1) of the 1991 Constitution.
The announcement, conveyed through a letter dated March 14, 2025, from the Secretary to the President, Emmanuel A/R. Gama, PhD, extends congratulations to Mrs. Gento-Kamara and notes that the terms and conditions of her service will be detailed subsequently.
Mrs. Gento-Kamara is a distinguished legal practitioner with over 14 years of experience in Sierra Leone’s legal sector. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Laws degree from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, and a Master of Laws (LLM) in Corporate and Business Law from Birmingham City University.
She further augmented her expertise with an honorary Doctor of Law degree and a Masterclass certificate in Business Management and Leadership from the Commonwealth University and London Graduate School.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Gento-Kamara has held several pivotal positions that underscore her commitment to public service and legal excellence:
– National Revenue Authority (NRA): Appointed as Chairperson of the NRA Board of Directors in 2018, she has been instrumental in driving reforms that led to unprecedented revenue generation. Her leadership has been recognized both nationally and continentally, with the NRA earning accolades such as the Best Performing Revenue Institution in Africa by the Africa Business Report.
– Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism (BRITACOM): Mrs. Gento-Kamara serves as the Vice President of BRITACOM, the world’s largest tax administration cooperation mechanism headquartered in Beijing, China. Her election to this role highlights her international standing in tax administration and policy.
– Sierra Leone Bar Association: She has served as the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, reflecting her peers’ recognition of her leadership and dedication to advancing the legal profession within the country.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Mrs. Gento-Kamara is actively involved in community development and advocacy. She chairs the Kamboi Eagles Football Club and is a fervent supporter of human and economic rights initiatives.
