His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has officially opened the Southern Arena Stadium, a remarkable achievement by businessman and philanthropist Babadi Kamara in Bo city.
The Southern Arena Stadium will host 6,000 Spectators.
Babadi Kamara, who is also Team Manager of Leones Stars, the national team, and Chairman of Bo Rangers Football Club said the motive behind the construction of the stadium is “to contribute to societal development, develop new players and improve on existing young football stars in the country and to explore their potentials”.
He added that development should not only be left in the hands of the central Government and urged individual businesses and private sector players to complement efforts by the Government in nation-building.
The opening ceremony attracted people from across the country and from all walks of life.
CEO and Founder of Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire and Chairman of E.E Lions Football Club, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr. also attended the event, in a show of support for the development of sports in the country.
He said: “Congratulations to Babadi Kamara for such a wonderful investment this is true progress towards the development of Sierra Leone Football and I’m truly inspired, Sierra Leone will definitely rise again inshallah. Watch the live broadcast on: Africa Young Voices AYV Media Empire”.
BBC Reporter in Sierra Leone, Umaru Fofana said: “Great to be a part of the opening of the Southern Arena in Bo, the first privately-owned stadium in Sierra Leone. With this, Babadi Kamara has etched his name in the annals of sporting history in the country that will be hard to match. This is history!”
The CAF-approved facility which will host the WAFU Zone A U20 Female Tournament next week is built and owned by businessman, Babadi Kamara.
