President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has again been invited to speak at Oxford University. This time, he will deliver a keynote address with the theme: ‘Changing Narratives: Vision, Action, and Transformation of Africa.’

President Elect – Postgraduate Student at Oxford, Wantoe Teah Wantoe said, “Looking forward to welcoming H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of Sierra Leone, as our distinguished keynote speaker at the Oxford Africa Conference 2025. This is one of the most exciting moments for us, and we believe this event will tremendously shape the future of African leadership and global conversations”.

President Bio will share the stage with other distinguished personalities, including the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

President Bio has successfully rolled out a New Direction Agenda, inspiring a citizen-led transformation and setting Sierra Leone on a progressive path to achieving middle-income status.

His radical reforms and bold actions ranging from investment in human capital development, abolishment of the Death Penalty to gender justice with the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Act – a landmark legislation promoting gender equality and empowering women by reserving 30% private and public sector jobs including representation for women in parliament and cabinet positions and granting them 14 weeks of maternity leave.

His unique progressive leadership is globally recognised as visionary and transformational for Sierra Leone and the African continent.

The Oxford Africa Conference 2025, hosted by the Oxford University Africa Society (AfriSoc), will be held on May 24 and 25 at the Blavatnik School of Government.

It aims to bring together scholars, professionals, and thought leaders to discuss Africa’s development and highlight its diverse successes. It will further facilitate meaningful dialogues on Africa’s development, showcasing the continent’s innovation, resilience, and contributions.

It will be attended by students, global leaders, and distinguished speakers and will focus on addressing critical issues and exploring innovative solutions for Africa’s future.
