Chairman Presidential Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has paid courtesy call on the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay in his office in Freetown.

The introductory visit was meant to foster good working relationship with all ministries as a foundation to actualise the Initiatives of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

Similar engagements have been made with the new Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security and the Minister of Finance.

The former minister of Agriculture met with Dr. Yumkella at the latter’s private office complex where they discussed the existing programs and activities of the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security. Such institutional memory is critical for scaling up actions to achieve food security.

Dr. Yumkella is former Member of Parliament and Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Party in the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic. A recent State House Press Statement said it has pleased His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio to announce appointment of Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella as Chairman of the Special Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security in Sierra Leone.

Dr. Yumkella appreciated and thanked the President for appointing him as Chairman of the Special Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security in Sierra Leone.

He expressed gratitude to the President for his trust and confidence in his abilities, vowing to work tirelessly to achieve President Bio’s vision of a more progressive, prosperous and inclusive Sierra Leone.

Dr. Yumkella said: “I have the honor to accept President Julius Maada Bio’s appointment as Chairman of the Special Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security. I thank the President for his trust and confidence in my abilities and will do my very best to achieve his vision of a more progressive, prosperous and inclusive Sierra Leone.

“Together, let’s promote eco-innovation, create a greener and sustainable future for all, including preserving the blue-economy. The Progressive Alliance stands ready to support your vision for a greener and more secure future for all Sierra Leoneans.”

Accepting Dr. Yumkella’s courtesies, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio said: “Thank you, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella for accepting this National Call to Service. My administration is committed to building climate-resilient infrastructure to help in combating the harmful effects of Climate Change.

“We are also committed to innovative mechanisms for boosting Renewable Energy and promoting Food Security, through the flagship FEED SALONE initiative. I am hopeful that your experience and expertise will help in fast-tracking our achievements in these 3 priority areas.”

Honourable Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella is a certified Doctor of Philosophy (PHD), in Agricultural Economics. He has served as a Development Expert for three decades many years and has contributed significantly to the growth of under developed countries.

He is the leader of the National Grand Coalition Party (NGC); a party that he formed immediately after he left the Sierra Leone People’s Party. He Contested both the Presidential and parliamentary elections of March 2018.

He was unsuccessful with his Presidential bid, but comfortably won the parliamentary seat in constituency 062 in Kambia district. He was therefore duly elected as a Member of Parliament in this constituency.

Honourable Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has identified the following constituency needs:  improvement in education, proper health care delivery, enhanced agricultural productivity, good feeder roads and river transport and sustainable livelihood especially for women. He is committed to ensure engagement is done with Development Partners to initiate remedial actions.
