Sierra Leone Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Emily Kadiatu Gogra, EduNations Board Chairman, Pastor Scot Graham and EduNations President Dr. Samuel Sesay commissioned the first ultramodern Junior and Senior Secondary School in Rokassa village, Masimra chiefdom, PortLoko district.

The colorful ceremony took place at the school’s grounds on Friday 23rd April 2021.  The school which was constructed by EduNations now has Nursery, Primary, Junior, Senior Secondary, boarding homes for boys and girls and clinic.

EduNations Admin and Finance Officer did a presentation of EduNations across their operational areas and said EduNations meant to bring quality education in rural areas of Sierra Leone.

Chairman of the ceremony, Prof. M.Y. Bangura said EduNations has done no mistake in investing in that part of the country while encouraging the students to work very hard to use the facility and the opportunity to develop their chiefdom in the future.

Principal of EduNations Hope Academy Junior and Senior Secondary School, Rev. Koroma described the community they are working as a very remote but the Founder of EduNations Rev. Dr. Dean Weaver saw brighter future for those kids.

He disclosed that the school comprises of both boys and girls and have a boarding home that already occupied by 127 students.

The school has Arts, Commercial and Science departments with computer labs, home economic lab and library.

He appealed to the deputy minister to consider the approval of the school as government assisted and the payment of teachers.

He spoke about the school green farm and the challenges they are faced with books for the library.

Former minister of Foreign Affairs Ramon IssaKabia explained how they got in contact with the founder of EduNations some years ago and a brief history of that village that was having only 5 houses but now becoming a city.

His hope is for the school to become the best in Sierra Leone just like the one in Ghana.

EduNations President Dr. Samuel Sesay said EduNations was founded some 16 years ago in the USA. In 2013 they got registered in Sierra Leone as NGO to help build free quality education.

He disclosed that EduNations gives forgotten children tangible reasons to hope as their mission is to connect resources from affluent societies with the needs of the poorest in the world to provide education, opportunity, and hope. More than teaching the ABCs, they create schools in Sierra Leone, that become self-supporting beacons of growth and learning.

“The key to development in under resourced communities is education. When boys and girls learn, the lives of their families and communities are transformed. Learning is at the center of physical, spiritual, and emotional health. EduNations is committed to the whole child, whole community, and holistic development.”

He went on to say EduNations is devoted to building schools to make education free and accessible to children who otherwise would not receive one.

“In Sierra Leone, many families go without food, or children are forced into prostitution or become petty thieves, to pay school fees.”

He disclosed that EduNations builds and operates 15 schools in the rural and operates in 5 northern province districts such as Bombali, Port Loko, Tonkolili and Koinadugu with 2,880 student and 128 teachers providing completely free education in all their schools.

“No child or parent is allowed to pay a single cent because somebody with a Godly heart is doing this.”

He added that they only charged those that are in the boarding home Le 200,000 per term for their feeding as they provide three sqaure meal a day for them but even that only few can afford that amount.

He thanked the Government of Sierra Leone for their support and for also considering them to approve all their schools

Port Loko District Council Chief Administrator, AlhajiAlhaji Bangura said they all should ensure that the children have free quality education.

EduNations Board Chairman, Pastor Scot Graham said EduNations story begins in 2003 when four families in the United States adopted children from Sierra Leone after the war for those children to get quality education.

He said they started in three villages and in 2013 it was expanded to 6 villages in rural Sierra Leone.

“We are providing hope for a generation that can’t afford it. It is our joy to participate in the gesture”

In her keynote address, Sierra Leone Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Madam Emily Kadiatu Gogra, EduNations spoke about President Bio declaration of free quality education in 2018 as his flagship programme.

She expressed joy to see such school in a remote community while encouraging female teachers of that school to do their best because women have passion for their jobs.

Without EduNation intervention the children would have suffered considering the suffering some children are going through because one aunty or relative will promise to educate them but turn out to use them as slave at home.

“This school will not only serve Rokasa village but Sierra Leone. As a ministry, we have been supporting the school and have approved some teachers. I want to renew the commitment today that we will support this school of excellent. We are behind you. You have put a big smile on our faces and have turned the lives of the children and the community around.”

The Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education also donated dozens of pure water and packet of pens to the children and said the school feeding is what they will be embarking on soon.
