This statement was made by the acting Staff Officer Grade 2 Captain Yayah Brima during a press briefing that was to address the inaccurate and misleading information bandied about the discovery and shortage of ammunition in social and main stream media. The press conference was held at the MoD, Tower Hill in Freetown.

According to Captain Brima there are three major arms and ammunition investigations currently being conducted. He added that a Board of Inquiry was set up by the MoD/RSLAF and Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Captain Brima also disclosed that as stated in their media advisory of 9^th July 2018, in adherence to Section 8 of the Right to Access Information Act No.2 of 2013, which restricts the disclosure of information on matters under investigation, he said the MoD/RSLAF cannot provide any details about the ongoing investigation until they are completed.

“After the retirement of President Koroma in April this year, the Senior Management Team of MoD/RSLAF directed that all arms and ammunition in the custody of the Joint Presidential Guard Force (JPGF) be back-loaded to the Joint Logistic Unit,” Captain Brima said during his presentation.
He maintained that the Commandant of Joint Logistics Unit (JLU), Colonel Albert Bockarie uncovered the serious shortage of the arms and ammunition.

Four senior military officers according to Captain Brima were released to report to the CID following the discovery of the ammunition on Friday 29^th June 2018 to help the police in the investigation. He noted that the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Gender and Equal Opportunities, Brigadier General Albert Kargbo is among them.

The MoD/RSLAF, Captain Brima disclosed is not pleased with the unlawful manner in which sensitive and classified information/document is leaked through social media and the mainstream media.

He added that no stone would be left unturned in the course of the investigation to get at the truth.
