As a way to ensure sustainability and smooth operability, the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has initiated a robust revenue generation mechanism that seeks to support the vision and mission of the company.
In a latest development, SALWACO’s Regional Manager, North-East, Ing. L.B Sawi, cascaded a message he had received from the SALWACO Director of Finance, Frank Lahai Kamara and the Operations Director, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie. The message is hinged on a slogan “go to the field and collect revenue,” which is in line with the SALWACO drive; revenue generation for sustainable development.
Ing. Sawi and team were joined by SALWACO’s Director of Environment and Sanitation, Ing. John Augustine Forewa. Such a drive is a testament to the institution’s continued commitments and urge to leave up to expectations and to raise the much needed revenue to enhance sustained growth.
The revenue generation mechanism is also an affirmation that SALWACO cannot continue to depend on subvention from government, alone, if timely results and aspirations were to be achieved in time. Customer debt records at SALWACO show that a number of institutions and individuals need to clear debts owed to the institution and as such, the new measure is aimed at ensuring that all of such debts are fully paid for. As an enforcing approach, disconnections and other measures will be instituted against defaulters so as to ensure payment/compliance.
Ing. Sawi disclosed that SALWACO was therefore now implementing a zero tolerance policy on debt accumulation. He said that same was in line with the new performance targets as set up by the SALWACO management at the HQ in Freetown.
He said that staff were therefore required to have positive mental attitudes to achieve the set aspirations.
Among other things, the new measures will see that customers regularly pay bills, to verify active and non-active customers, encourage disconnected customers to pay debts and to get reconnected, engage non customers to see reasons to connect plus to use office and field information/data for prompt and required action.
Ing. Sawi was accompanied by the SALWACO Senior Finance Officer in Makeni, Alusine Bangura, Customer Relation Assistants and some Plumbers.
With the newly appointed Board Chairman, Joseph Ndanema settling in, the leadership of Ing. George Lamin Vandy as Managing Director and Apostle Dr. Albert Harrison Harvey as Deputy MD, is poised to ensure that the right and actual results are achieved and in record time.
