ACODE-SL Chairman Claude Sheriff explained that they are were faced with several challenges as a local Non-Governmental Organisation through that they wrote to several companies but Seawright Mining Company was the only company that came to their aid.

Mr Sheriff said they were challenged with mobility and office equipment among others things. He said they were finding it very difficult to move for one location to another to advocate and speak on behalf of others.

He expressed their appreciation to Seawright Mining for their timely intervention. According to Mr Sheriff, such donation has helped them to carry on with their activities very fast.

ACODE-SL a local community base and civil society organisation advocates on behalf of the voiceless in the East of Sierra Leone.

The Human Resource Officer Alex Christian Manie said when they were approached by ACODE-SL, they met at management level to see what they can do for them and at the end of their meeting they agreed to give such donation.

Alex Christian Manie said they donated a motorbike, one computer and accessory and cash for the licensing of the motorbike.

Alex Christian Manie added that Seawright felt very good to make such a donation, “We are doing what other companies have failed to do and we are one step ahead.”

He disclosed that Seawright is currently undertaking exploration but what they have done in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility was beyond people’s imagination. He stressed that the communities they were operating needed to feel belonged, that was why they were doing all they could to please them despite the exploration stage the company was.

He said that was not their first donation and it would not be the last as they hoped to do more of such in the two communities they are operating.

Before presenting the items, Chief Operating Officer, of Seawright Mining Company, William Browne Kamanda outlined some of their  Corporate Social Responsibilities in the two districts they operate such as community development, education, road network, rehabilitation of a primary school at Formaya, construction of a ferry to ease transportation across the Ngawama River among others.

He encouraged the organization to continue advocating for the voiceless as they are the only people who could speak on their behalf.

He pledged Seawright’s commitment not only to the communities they operate but to the country in general.
